THE WINDMILL

The windmill can be considered the weapon who is capable of doing the most damage in chess. Although it is difficult to achieve a position in which the windmill can be used, if you do achieve such a position, you will, most of the time, with a winning material advantage! It is Easier to understand with a visual example, but basically consists of: When doing the discovered check, you eat an enemy piece with the piece you take out of the way, then return that same piece to put the enemy in check and by doing so, force the enemy king to go back in a position where a discovered check is possible again, and you repeat the sequence as many time as you can, taking a piece each time.






Here, a windmill is possible with the white rook and white bishop. First they do a discovered check by moving taking the black bishop with their rook, the black king then moves to g8, the white rook comes back to g7 check, the king has no choice to move back to h8, the rook then takes the knight with a discovered check and so on…
