Session # 17

THE OPPOSITION TECHNIQUE

We continue with the opposition technique which is also used in the endgame. This technique is mostly used in pawn endings. The goal is to 'control' the enemy king with our own king, which can and mostly does decide the result of the game.

Here, white has the oposition because they just moved their king to f4 and they control they enemy king by blocking it from moving on the 5th row, the rest of the game is played as follows:
1………. R-e6
2.R-g5 R-e7
3.R-f5 R-d6
4.R-f6 R-c6
5.R-e6 R-c7!! Black has been smart enough to position himself in such a way that when white takes the pawn, balck gains the opposition.
6.Rxd5
Now its up to you to find the moves that will lead black to a draw
