Session # 21
DRAWING A LOST GAME
For this session we see ways to draw an otherwise lost game! Lets start
by the perpetual check. Its a series of check that the enemy king cannot
get himself out of. Once the exact same position is repeated three times,
it's a draw. The second way to draw a lost game is to sacrifice a piece
in a position where if that piece wasn't there, it would be stalemate,
or that by giving the piece, you change the position into a stalemate
if the enemy takes it. The third and final way is to simply put our
selves into a known drawn position even if the enemy has a material
advantage. Again, lets go look at some examples.
Here, white has 4 points behind but can still draw the game with a perpetual
check! By going to g6+ with their queen and then to h6, g6, h6 g6!
Here, black has 4 points behind but can still draw the game by going
to R-c4+. If white captures the rook its stalemate and if they don't'
they lose their queen and probably the game, so they have to take and
stalemate black!

Here they black king only has to move its king to h8, h7, g7 or g8
to ensure the draw, white will never be able to push that pawn further
than h7 where it will be draw right away or shortly after. Next time
you are in this position with the enemy only having one pawn left and
that pawn is on the h or a file, just go in the corner as quickly as
possible.
