THE SPANISH OPENING OR THE RUY LOPEZ


Ok, firstly lets look at the Ruy Lopez or the Spanish opening, the one that is probably the mostly used opening of all times. As mentioned, we will not go into variants of the openings, only the main line. However the WHY of the moves will be explained in class and you may wish to take notes.

1.e2-e4 .... e7-e5
2.N-f3 .... N-c6
3.B-b5 .... a7-a6
4.B-a4 .... N-f6
5.0-0 .... B-e7
6.R-e1 .... b7-b5
7.B-b3 .... 0-0
