Session # 28
THE PSYCHOLOGICAL PREPARATION
For this session we are going to look into another aspect of chess,
a very important and often overlooked aspect of playing great chess:
The mental or psychological preparation. The mental preparation decides
a bigger share of the outcome of you performance than you might think.
To put all the chances on your side, you must not overlook the psychological
aspect of the game. In this session we will see a couple of ways that
we can prepare for a chess event or even change our psychological outlook
on chess forever! The first little trick is what most athletes do to
prepare for a competition, the visualization, it consists of visualizing
an event in you head the way you want it to happen you repeat the process
as often as possible, thinking about every detail, and you start as
longer before the competition as possible. The second trick would be
the auto-programming of the sub-conscious mind, a way to do this is
to write a list of about ten things that would like to change or add
in your chess play that would make you a better player and write those
ten things at least once a day, while really concentrating on them and
convincing yourself that you are already a changed chess player. Lets
talk about it come more in class.
