Session # 17
THE FORK

We will start filling your tool box with different tools or tactics necessary to build up your game. We start with the fork. The fork is the tool used most often to win material fast. To do a fork to our enemy, we only have to threaten to capture 2 pieces at a time with one of our own pieces which should be of lesser value than those pieces if in the end, we have to lose it in the exchange.

Here, if the pawn moves to c4, he puts the king in check at the same times that he threatens the rook, so next move, he will capture the rook.

Here, if the bishop moves to b5, he does a fork on the two bishops.

At the end of every session, we recommend pracicing and / or doing some chess puzzles. This site has chess puzzles and also a chess forum so you can chat with other players. http://www.chessnerds.com
