Session # 26
THE DAMIANO GAME

Now for the other extreme, the opening that is probably one of the less widely used (and for reason- it's not very good).

1.e4 e5
2.C-f3 f6
3.Cxe5!! (A classical knight sacrifice that ensures white a definate advantage. In fact, after 3 ... fxe5, 4 Dh5 + wins by force in all variants: a) 4 ... g6; 5 Dxe5+ and white wins the rook on h8; b) 4 ... Re7; 5 Dxe5+, Rf7; 6 Fc4+, d5 (to stop the immediate mate); 7 Fxd5 +, Rg6; 8 Dg3 + and white with three pawns for a knight have an irresistable attack on the poor black king.)
3 ……………. De7
The only move that wins back the pawn.
4 Cf3 Dxe4+
White removes its knight, clearing its self away from the trap - 4 Dh5 + g6!; 5 Cxg6, Dxe4+ (and not hxg6?; 6 Dxh8!) and black wins the knight with the queen.
5 Fe2

Position after the move 5 F-e2 in the Damiano game.
